Why is Zermatt one of the best ski resorts in the world?
There is no other place like this. A postcard alpine village at the end of a valley, just like a movie.
And overlooking the town there is always the famous, most iconic mountain of all, The Matterhorn.
A few facts
Zermatt lies at 1620 metres (5314 ft) at the upper end of the Matter valley in the Swiss canton of Valais, across the border from Italy. It is connected to the resort of Breuil-Cervinia, which makes it even more special as one of the few resorts in the world that allows skiing in two different countries.
Almost one-third of the 4000 metre (over 13000 ft) peaks in the whole Alpine range are located in the region of Zermatt, which makes the scenery overwhelming.
The Zermatt and Breuil-Cervinia ski area is the highest in the Alps.
Around 360 km of pistes when the whole resort is open, including the Italian side.
The highest point in the international ski area is 3899 m above sea level and the lowest is 1620 m.
The maximum altitude difference is 2375m.
A dining experience
Zermatt and Breuil-Cervinia offer, in our opinion, some of the best mountain dining experiences in the world. Hidden in small hamlets around the resort, or right in the middle of open runs, you can find the most exclusive restaurants and delights of all kinds and for every taste.
There are a few self-service spots around as well, for the ones that just want to ski all day - non stop!
The terrain is so vast and the vertical distances are so big that stopping for a nice lunch and relaxing with your friends or family makes the whole experience something to remember.
After living and working in Zermatt for over 10 years, I can say that every other resort I have skied in has something missing that only Zermatt can provide. For my guests, I have always done my best to show them that special factor that makes Zermatt unique.
It is one of those places that you just have to be here to believe it.
